Donate blood and save up to three lives

The communications manager of the SANBS, Ms Vanessa Raju, said the organisation struggles to meet its target, of 3 000 units of blood a day, during the December period.

The South Africa National Blood Service (SANBS) has asked residents to spare some time to donate blood this festive season.

The communications manager of the SANBS, Ms Vanessa Raju, said the organisation struggles to meet its target, of 3 000 units of blood a day, during the December period.

This, in turn, affects the group’s ability to treat patients who are in need of blood.

“If the blood stock levels from previous years over the festive season are anything to go by, we will have some tough times ahead. We want to encourage the public to find 30 minutes this holiday period to donate blood, because while you are relaxing and enjoying the break, your blood could save up to three people’s lives. It is only possible to meet the demand with the help of regular and committed blood donors,” said Ms Raju.

To find the nearest blood donation centre, SMS your name and postal code to 31454 or call 0800 119 031.
