Inyoni residents take up art classes

Residents of Inyoni Creek decided to take up the challenge and learn how to paint.

Residents of Inyoni Creek decided to take up the challenge and learn how to paint.

This was after Ms Lesley Hogg, from Creative Image Studios, said anyone can learn how to paint after presenting a talk and demonstration at the Inyoni Creek clubhouse recently.

After the first lesson, they discovered the joy of working with colour and form.

Residents felt a sense of accomplishment as they walked away with their first artistic efforts.

Ms Debbie Christen, the manager of recreational programmes at Rand Aid Association, said the progression was visible after five lessens as the residents learnt and applied the various techniques taught to them.

“But more than that, they are getting so much pleasure out of creating something beautiful with their own hands,” said Ms Christen.

Mr Marcel Heintjie said, “I have always wanted to learn how to paint, but never had the time.”

Ms Sydelle Morris and her husband, Edel, are enjoying the classes a lot.

They decided to make a special cushion for Liyah, their three year old great-granddaughter.

Ms Penny Howie said she sees the class as an opportunity to improve her painting skills.

“The lessons are great fun and I have met some new friends. I did not expect to produce such great paintings in such a short time,” she said.
