An Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from Bedfordview, responded to the accident.

A truck driver sustained serious burn wounds when two trucks collided on the N12/R24 split this morning.
An Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from Bedfordview, responded to the accident involving two articulated trucks.
“The call was received at about 3am and on arrival it was found that the trucks were on fire as a result of the collision,” said William Ntladi, media liaison officer for DEMS.
“Apparently the trucks were driving in the same lane in the same direction before the accident happened.
“The collision happened as a result of the rear truck crashing into the back of the leading one and both erupted in flames.”
The driver of the rear truck was transported to Milpark Hospital for further medical treatment after sustaining severe burn wounds.
The driver of the truck in front escaped unharmed.
All four lanes on the east bound highway were closed to traffic.
“The actual cause of the crash is still undetermined,” Ntladi said.
