Ready, steady, almost time to spell

As many as 75 students from 15 different schools will participate in this year’s competition.

The annual Caxton Spelling Bee competition is almost upon us.

As many as 75 students from 15 different schools will participate in this year’s competition.

The competition, which will take place on September 24, will see the top grade 7 pupils compete among themselves, spelling a broad selection of words as they aim to be crowned the king and queen of spelling.

Now in its second year, the Spelling Bee competition is one of the events held under the auspices of Caxton to promote literacy. The event is aimed at giving our future leaders an opportunity to develop their public speaking skills, improve their speech and promote unerring usage of the English language, pronunciation and spelling.

There is still an opportunity for people or businesses to sponsor a child or school of their choice. Sponsors can send an email to Daniel Seleme at dseleme@caxton.co.za or alternatively contact him on 011 916-5349.

Winning contestants will walk away with a Kindle Fire sponsored by Hirsch’s home-store. There is also a mystery prize for the ultimate winner.

The venue for this year’s event has yet to be announced.
