Edenvale youngster launches paintball magazine

New magazine for paintball shooters.

Mr Kennedy Torres (17), a local resident, has established his own paintball magazine.

An Edenvale High School pupil, Kennedy said his motivation for producing the magazine was his passion for the game and because currently the sport does not have its own publication.

“I love paintball shooting, but there was not a magazine for the sport on the market,” said Kennedy.

“I approached Paintball City in Germiston with the idea and they supported it,” he said.

Kennedy said it was difficult to get advertising for his planned magazine but he was willing to try harder.

“When I told my parents about the magazine they were extremely excited and supportive,” said Kennedy.

“I planned the magazine, doing the layout and writing myself. I showed it to my parents and they provided their input on where I could change it,” he said.

“There are many dimensions to paintballing. There is speedball, which is very intense and the game requires planning. There are five members on each side and the only cover you have is inflatable bunkers.

“Another element is bushball, which is military-based and requires a more tactical approach,” he explained.

Kennedy’s magazine is distributed at paintball shops in Gauteng as well as in Cape Town and Richards Bay.

“I am really happy with the magazine and that other paintball shooters have a magazine to read. People will more likely understand paintball better now that the magazine includes information on the game,” he said.
