Tenants of overcrowded Eastleigh property evicted

The Sheriff of the Court is also on-scene and was appointed by the court to ensure the residents leave.

Tenants of a property along Republic Road in Eastleigh were evicted this afternoon.

According to a Facebook post by the Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) chairperson, Mrs Linda McKenzie, 30 people were believed to have been staying on the property which is zoned as Residential 1.

An inspector from town planning, who asked to remain anonymous, said the tenants were given notice to leave the property in 2014.

In April this year, the tenants asked for an extension.

The tenants were asked to leave today after no effort was made to move during the extension period.

The Sheriff of the Court is also on-scene and was appointed by the court to ensure the residents leave.

Former tenant at the property, Mr Chris Baraka, said he is unsure about what’s happening but he paid rent two days ago.

The owner of the property is not available for comment at this point.
