Laerskool Nobel Primary teacher, Mrs Elsie van Oordt, has retired after 40 years of teaching.

She taught at various schools, such as Hendrina Laerskool, Northmead Laerskool and Johan Greybe for short periods. She then joined Laerskool Nobel Primary School, which is based in Modderfontein, in 1980.

Mrs van Oordt taught grade 1 for 17 years and then moved on to teach the grade 2 pupils. For the last three years she has taught grade 4 and 7 classes, and was also the acting Head of Department (HOD) in the Foundation and Intermediate phases.

She worked under principals Mr Hager, Mr Bellingham, Mr van Vuuren and the current principal, Mrs Bellingham.

Ms Renate Landman, the secretary at the school said, “Mrs van Oordt had become family to her colleagues and enjoyed a good co-operative relationship with her pupils’ parents. Her pupils were very dear to her and she has always regarded her teaching career a privilege. We are sad to see Mrs van Oordt leave us and we wish her well in her retirement and know that she will enjoy her well-earned rest.”
