Goldfields – fun for the whole family
"There is no entrance fee for the public to come and watch."
The Goldfields kennel club and show grounds, situated along Boeing Street in Bedfordview, hosts a number of different dog shows and events throughout the year.
The events are for dog lovers and families to come and participate and show off their fury friends.
The club and the grounds are run by Mr Rob Forsyth, the chairman of the Goldfields show grounds and Mr Tim Larther de Langladure, who is the chairman of the Goldfields kennel club.
“We are aiming to keep the grounds running and will make improvements where we can,” said Mr Forsyth.
There are massive expenses in running the grounds and because of this, they need to have an income from several sources.
Goldfields hosts various dog shows from the different kennel clubs in Johannesburg which, according to Mr Forsyth, is a fun day out for the family at no cost.
“There is no entrance fee for the public to come and watch. The club generates its revenue from the competitors in the dog shows and the various stalls that are around the grounds on show days.”
This however, is not enough and the club relies on members of their 600 club, a club where members donate R50 a month to the grounds.
The club is used as a fundraising committee to help generate further income.
