Manhole repaired

"I couldn't do my washing, I couldn't cook in my kitchen, it stank so much."

The sewerage manhole that was blocked on August 6 at a Klopperpark property was unblocked on August 8 by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).

The sewerage line was blocked by a piece of concrete after pieces of concrete broke from the deteriorating pipe leading down to the sewerage line.

Mrs Nancy du Toit (63) and her husband Rocky (58) who have been staying in the house for 37 years said that their daily lives were affected by the smell of the raw sewage that overflowed from the manhole into their yard.

“I couldn’t do my washing, I couldn’t cook in my kitchen, it stank so much,” said Mrs Du Toit.

Mrs Du Toit said that it was a health hazard for the couple and their three dogs.

“I had to keep my dogs away from the sewage,” she said.

The EMM repaired the manhole and cleaned the sewage in the yard on August 11.
