MW De Wet principal retires after 39 years

“It takes a special person to be a teacher."

After being the principal of Laerskool MW De Wet Primary School for the past 13 years, Mr Johan Kloppers will be retiring at the end of the year.

Mr Kloppers, who began his teaching career 39 years ago, said teaching has been a large part of his life .

“It takes a special person to be a teacher,” said Mr Kloppers.

He said one of the reasons he entered the teaching profession was the desire to make a difference in the lives of children.

“Besides wanting to make a difference, many members of my family were also teachers so I decided to become one too,” said Mr Kloppers.

While at the school, some of Mr Kloppers’ fondest memories of Laerskool MW De Wet Primary were all the concerts and plays the learners hosted.

He said he also enjoyed watching the sports games and the rugby matches that were played by the learners.

“When I was a younger teacher I enjoyed doing the after school sports with the children but as I got older, I decided just to watch and let the younger guys coach the sport,” said Mr Kloppers.

Mr Kloppers said now that he is retiring from teaching he is looking forward to spending more time with his wife.

“We will stay in Gauteng for a while but later we will travel South Africa and visit all the interesting places,” said Mr Kloppers.

Mr Kloppers said he and his wife will travel the coast of South Africa where Mr Kloppers hopes to move to.

“I am going to miss all the staff, learners and parents who have come to form part of my daily life. I wish MW de Wet all the best and know that the school will continue to provide quality education to the learners in the community in the years to come,” said Mr Kloppers.

He said Mrs Christa Scheepers will take over as the acting principal until February 1, when a new principal will be appointed.
