Power out due to ongoing construction
BRAMLEY – City Power is working to fix faulty cables and ensure power is back on for residents.
Although a power outage occurred in areas such as Highlands North, Rouxville and Glenhazel on 9 January around 9.30pm, 65 per cent of those affected had their electricity restored within a day.
However, 700 customers were still without electricity due to seven generators not working properly and consistently cutting out. The source of the problem was two faulty cables underground and the constant construction in the area.
Construction has been going on for the past year in an effort to extend the road on Louis Botha Avenue for the Bus Rapid Transit system.

The system will feature dedicated bus-only lanes and will soon be operational on the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and Athol Road. Unfortunately, the hitting of underground cables causes them to fault, however, City Power and its contractors have been working on this problem.
According to City Power, this problem will occur again because of the fault underground.

Ward 74 councillor, David Fischer said, “The problem is the infrastructure which is 100 years old and it is a big challenge we are facing. We are expecting this problem to be fixed by 14 January and give a big thanks to City Power for their commitment and their technical competence.
“The mayor and his Democratic Alliance (DA) team have brought a renewed energy and determination in the area. As always, we ask the residents to please be the eyes and ears for the community. If there are any problems, please call 011 395 5555 and get a reference number or send your complaint to dfischer@iafrica.com.”
