Help raise funds for dance group

MALVERN – Malvern Ballroom Dancing Group to showcase their talent in a bid to raise funds.

The Malvern Ballroom Dance Group will host a concert on 11 March at Methodist Church in Malvern to raise funds for the group.

“The group has grown since its establishment in 2014. We started small but we have grown and we now have more members and have also expanded the group in terms of dance styles,” said founder and ballroom dancer Gugulethu Sangweni.

She said the group has now included traditional dancing, Sarafina and tin dancing.

“It has not been easy because we don’t have any financial support to run the group. We spend from our own pocket. Children come from a disadvantaged background, so we try to support them and encourage them to continue dancing by providing the outfits,” explained Sangweni.

She said the concert is also about showcasing the children’s talent while raising funds for the group to cover the cost of transport if they need to travel, dancing outfits and administration. The dance group has also added life skills to help the children build their confidence.

“The group has given them a sense of responsibility because when you look where they were when they joined the group you can see the difference. They have developed confidence and pride in themselves in what they are doing.”

She said they would appreciate donations and sponsors to help continue grooming the talent.

“I would like to thank the support from my team Zuzile Dlamini, Rosslyn Cassidy and Nomusa Ndlalane for being part of the group and supporting the children. I would also like to encourage parents and the community to come support the children.”
