About 39 matriculants from Queens High School attended an annual leadership camp at Maraneman on the Vaal, a team-building venue, on 10 February.
The purpose of the camp was to build bonds, learn leadership skills and essentially help the school to identify their deputies, head girl and head boy this year.
According to the school’s counsellor, Jacky Carter, the camp helped to identify the true leaders during team-building exercises and problem-solving activities.

The voting of the leaders happened last year. They were then announced as potential leaders. “After camp, they were officially badged as leaders and we then announced our heads. This enabled peers and teachers to vote more effectively at the council leader election,” said Carter.
Pupils spent the weekend taking part in activities that are designed to help foster team bonding as well as allow for them to build on their own strengths and work on their weaknesses. “Some of the learners had to overcome fears and others had to learn new coping skills, but they all learned to treat each other as family. We look forward to seeing them live up to their potential this year,” said Carter.
