I Love Kensington Association (Ilka) chairperson Brendon Burmester ready to serve the community
KENSINGTON – Ilka's new chairperson asking for support from the community.
Passionate, a visionary and a go-getter are words you can use to describe the newly elected I Love Kensington Association (Ilka) chairperson Brendon Burmester.
He has been living in Kensington for 13 years and this is not his first time as the association’s chairperson. He was chairperson from 2009 to 2011. Burmester said he was excited to serve the community again and looks forward to working with them.

He added that Kensington had a special place in his heart. “Kensington is a small suburb with great history,” he said. “It’s a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. Like any other community, it has its challenges that the community need to address together.”
He said when he was chairperson previously things were different in terms of getting the community involved. “The community was not as involved as they are now. We would call meetings and only a few would attend and that kills the spirit. Now everyone wants to be involved in some way.”
The new chairperson said he had witnessed the changes in the area that needed to be addressed. “The area has deteriorated over the years. But it’s reversible if we work together. We can do little things to make a difference.”
He said he was concerned about how the association was being run in terms of its core focus. “Ilka is more than just a group to share ideas… but it also about looking after the area and making sure as residents we are happy about our surroundings. We about uplifting the community.”

Burmester said the association wanted to address all issues in the community and were inviting residents to come on board to support them in achieving their goals. “We are open to ideas, but if you come with an idea you must be responsible and we will support you.
“We want to make Kensington great again. We are a very diverse community with interesting people and history. If we work together we can achieve a number of things.”
