CUBE initiative to uplift Bedfordview and Edenvale communities

"I want to bring life back into the town and make Edenvale the jewel of the east again."

Vernon Cloete, former chairman of Edenvale Rand Road Warriors, feels strongly about improving the community of Bedfordview and Edenvale.

In order to make his ideas a reality, Vernon came up with the concept of Communities Uplifting Bedfordview and Edenvale, or CUBE.

Cloete said he hopes the initiative will get residents more involved in the upkeep of their community.

“I want to bring life back into the town and make Edenvale the jewel of the East again,” said an excited Cloete.

In order to get CUBE up and running Cloete has partnered with ERRW and its runners who will be taking part in the Comrades Marathon.

Cloete said he will donate R1 per kilometre for every runner from the ERRW who completes the ultra-marathon.

Sixty-eight runners from the club will be competing in the marathon.

Gareth Manson, chairman of the club, said the club will donate 50 cents per kilometre for every runner from ERRW who completes the the ultra-marathon.

The money donated will be used to kickstart the CUBE initiative.

“Through this initiative I hope the community will work together and uplift our towns,” said Cloete.

Cloete hopes the initiative will reduce the service delivery concerns among community members and bring community members together.

Manson said he is excited to be involved in the CUBE initiative.

“I feel very happy. The running club has always been involved in helping the community and to bring the community together and help on such a great scale is exciting,” said Manson.
