Destitute, desperate and dying to work

Stanton and his family moved from Durban to Edenvale earlier this year in the hopes of finding employment for himself.

A family of five has turned to the community of Edenvale for assistance without which they will land on the streets to survive.

Husband and father of three, Stanton Rajcoomar, is unemployed at the moment and without assistance, his family will have nowhere and no one to turn to.

Stanton and his family moved from Durban to Edenvale earlier this year in the hope of finding employment.

After being unable to find a job, Stanton could not find a place for his family to stay.

“I walked past a nursery school and someone there took my details to help me out,” said Stanton.

For a few months, Stanton and his family found salvation and a place to stay.

Since moving to Edenvale, Stanton has had work on an irregular basis.

He said that earlier this year, he managed to find work at a restaurant in Kempton Park, for a month.

Stanton explained how he made a living from tips.

“Ultimately, the transport costs worked out to be too expensive,” said Stanton.

Stanton and his family now have to leave the place where they were staying.

Stanton told the NEWS that originally, he was meant to leave his current residence by September 5 but this had recently been moved forward to September 1.

“At the moment I am trying to make a plan and find a room or something for my family.”

“Because we haven’t found a place yet, we are really worried about what will happen to our children. It is hard when you have children and don’t know where to go,” said Stanton.

On the first of each month Stanton said his wife, Jackie, receive child support for his children who are between one and five years old.

This is the only money the family receives.

“The child support is not much but somehow the money helps to buy what the children need,” said Stanton.

He explained that a job it would greatly assist the family.
