Children’s home needs support

OBSERVATORY– Home finds ways to generate money.

Johannesburg Children’s Home in Urania Village, Observatory, requests assistance from the community to support its new income-generating venture.

“The home is working very hard at building income-generating enterprises that will assist in meeting the needs of the 64 vulnerable children we care for.

“With this guest house cottage, we hope to attract people to our facility to generate money for the home,” said Fiona Duke, head of operation.

The facility also offers a venue for conferences, training or functions.

“Our hall looks out onto a beautiful garden and enjoys secure off-street parking.

“We also have a comfortable guest cottage tucked away on our property, securely fenced and surrounded by trees and beautiful lawns.

“We are able to accommodate individual bookings as well as groups. Our cottage can cater for nine people in five bedrooms, with three bathrooms, a fitted kitchen and a comfortable lounge,” explained Duke.

The home also offers catering platters and a laundry service at reasonable rates.

“As a home, we felt it was important to find ways to make money. In these difficult times people don’t donate as much as they used too. We appreciate the donations we receive, but we also must find ways sustain ourselves,” added Duke.

The home is 124 years old and has been giving love and care to homeless and distressed children for decades.

It caters for children between the ages of three and 18 years old.
