Ward 118 in a bad state

WARD 118 – “I am worried about my business. The pavements are crumbling."

By Mbavhalelo Malofha

Malvern Community Forum spokesperson Mike Spadino said Malvern is deteriorating.

He said the dirt and crumbling pavements are dissuading new investors from coming to the suburb.

A Malvern businesswoman who wished to remain anonymous also expressed concern.

“I am worried about my business. The pavements are crumbling. Cars are parked on the pavements,” said the 30th Street business owner.

Another business owner, Daniel Zitha said he is more concerned about the ward as a whole.

“Malvern, Denver, Cleveland and Kensington are all in a bad state. I last saw the ward councillor in October last year,” he said.

Mike Spadino is concerned about Malvern.

Zitha said when he contacts Clr Neuren Pietersen, the calls are dropped.

He alleged that he is not the only resident who is having a problem with the councillor.

“We are working on signing a petition to have him removed as our ward councillor,” said Zitha.

“I have lost hope for our ward,” said resident Keitumetse Tlou.

“I am concerned about the safety of our children. It is easy for children to fall due to these crumbling pavements. We have tried on several occasions to tell our councillor about the same problems but he takes our concerns for granted,” she said.

The EXPRESS also visited some of the areas of concern highlighted by residents and business owners in Cleveland, Malvern and Kensington.

Denver resident, Mbali Tsedu, said they don’t know who their councillor is.

The EXPRESS made several attempts to contact Pietersen and also sent a request for comment on September 15 at 9am.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
