The teams fell short of the record attempt but joined hands to pull a 16.4 tonne fire engine over a distance of one kilometre.
To commemorate the 2017 South African Emergency Service Institute (SAESI) Conference teams of firefighters from around South Africa gathered in Modderfontein on October 29.

Not only was the day set aside for firefighters and emergency services personnel to register for the conference, teams also aimed to break a world ‘fire truck pulling’ record.
The event was held at the premises of South African Emergency Care (SAEC).

The teams fell short of the record attempt but joined hands to pull a 16.4 ton fire engine over a distance of one kilometre.
The previous record, set in 2015, saw 127 firefighters pull a 16 400kg fire engine 1.6km in 20 minutes and seven seconds.
