Calista Rose Panaino (9), a Grade Three learner at Laerskool MW De Wet Primary is a budding star.

She was selected as one of the three Ekurhuleni school children for best story writing in the region and she also excelled at local and regional Eisteddfod.

After doing well at the Bedford Eisteddfod, she went on to the Greater Ekurhuleni Eisteddfod where she was the junior drama item winner in the Grade 0 to Grade Seven category in two events, Bible reading and Own Choice Poetry.
What makes these achievements even more significant is that Calista was born to deaf parents and also has a deaf sibling.
Her home language is, therefore, sign language, which she uses to assist the family in communicating in everyday life.
