About 100 shacks were destroyed by the fire leaving over 100 people displaced.

An elderly woman died in a fire at Denver informal settlement this weekend.

Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) spokesperson, Mr Robert Mulaudzi, said about 100 shacks were destroyed by the fire leaving over 100 people displaced.

“The fire is believed to have been caused by an unattended candle which was in use. Disaster management conducted an assessment in the area regarding the damage and also facilitated relief for affected residents,” he said.
