Community members bond at annual Modderfontein potjie competition

This competition is for the community of the village to come together.

The annual Modderfontein Lakeside Village Potjiekos Competition was held on May 19.

Over 40 residents of the village entered their potjies into this day-long competition.

There was a variety of potjies on display, such as the biltong-and-beer pot.

The competition was held to encourage the community of the village to come together.

Businesses from the area were also in attendance and donated towards the day.

The Shell garage right next to Lakeside Village also showed its support for the competition with a number of donations.

The competition saw eight judges tasting all the dishes on the day and eliminating entrants until they were left with the top three.

A potjie entered into the Lakeside Village Potjiekos Competition.

First prize was a hot-air balloon trip over Magaliesburg.

Second prize was a R1 000 voucher from Fahrenheit Restaurant.

Third prize was a R1 000 meat voucher from JJ’s Butchery.

Bren Van Zyl from the winning team, Love The Game, with the trophy he earned in the Lakeside Village Potjiekos Competition.

The winning team for the competition was Love The Game.

“It was an awesome day and a great vibe that went on till late in the night,” said Laura James, a resident at Lakeside Village.
