William Ntladi, spokesperson of City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services, said the worker was buried in a trench collapse on Friday.

The trench is believed to be at least six metres deep. Ntladi said boulders fell on top of the construction worker and he was killed when the trench collapsed.

“On June 15 the construction worker was declared dead,” said Ntladi.

“DEMS members have been working closely with contractors, Edenvale SAPS, Edenvale Community Police Forum and AfriForum to recover the body.”

Ntladi said that stake holders from the community are fully engaged with the recovery of the body.

“We hope to recover the body by the end of today. The public must stay clear of the site while we continue with these recovery efforts.”
Ntladi could not confirm whether the construction worker’s family has been notified of his death.
