Buurendal’s Syan has high hopes for Hollywood

“I really enjoy the competition and the people I meet at them.”

Thirteen-year-old Buurendaal resident Syan du Preez recently qualified to represent South Africa at the American Dance Awards National Competition. Du Preez will take part in the competition in Hollywood next month as a title dancer.

She was selected for the competition last year October at the SA National Dance competition.

“I am excited to be going to America to represent my country,” said du Preez.

2018 marks the second year that du Preez has been given the opportunity to represent South Africa in America.

Three years ago she took part and excelled in an international dance competition.

Du Preez said the trophy which she received at the time was bigger than her.

“I was so happy.”

Du Preez, who started dancing at a young age, said her older brothers inspired her to get involved in the sport.

While her older brothers would practice, du Preez would try to dance and be involved in their training.

Thirteen-year-old Syan du Preez was recently selected to represent South Africa at the American Dance Awards National Competition in July this year.

With nine years of dancing experience behind her, du Preez is confident she will do well overseas.

“I really enjoy the competition and the people I meet at them,” she explained.

“I like the competitions because I learn new skills at them.”

Du Preez’ father Paul, said he and his wife are incredibly proud of their daughter.

“It is not every day that something like this happens to your child.”

In order to get their daughter to America, Paul and his wife are raising funds for the trip.

In total it will cost the family R50 000 for du Preez to compete in America.

“We have started fund-raising and selling CDs that our sons recorded to raise funds.”

Du Preez said when she gets older she would like to be an internationally known dancer.
