One such garden is Modimo O Teng Co-op which on September 1 was hosted at Checkers Hyper Edenvale.
Modimo was one of many community food gardens selling excess crops at selected Checkers stores across SA, in an initiative that has become known as Market Day.
The day allowed participating gardens to raise awareness of the work they do in communities while also raising much-needed funds.
Some go the extra mile and sell homemade quiche, medicinal herbs, pickled vegetables and other healthy products.
