Sassa host ICROP in Denver

Denver is a poverty-stricken area.

South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) hosted the Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) in Denver on November 1.

ICROP is all about promoting development, poverty reduction, and social inclusion for isolated people.

“The programme is for socially excluded people in rural and semi-urban areas like Denver. We came to do an outreach programme here because we are trying to reach out to the community which might be in need of social security services like social grants or food parcels,” explained local office manager of Sassa Paul Miyambo.

He said it was important for Sassa to host such an event because they have identified challenges in Denver.

“Denver is a poverty-stricken area. We have identified a need for a Sassa visit because they need the service we provide.

“We are making these services easy to access because some might not even have the money to come to visit our offices,” said Miyambo.

On the day, residents were able to apply for different social grant services like a child support grant and old age grant.

Denver community members attend the Sassa ICROP outreach in numbers to receive help in social security matters.

Two-hundred-and-forty families received food parcels and another 139 applicants applied for food parcels.

“During the outreach, we noted there is a large number of people in of our service in the area; we will be visiting again.

“We’d also like to encourage people in need to visit our offices and find out which grants to apply for if they meet the qualifying criteria,” said Mayimbo.

Ward 65 Clr Lindani Zulu expressed his gratitude of the Sassa visit to the area.

“Our community needed this visit because many people need Sassa. I’m also happy that the community attended and were assisted,” said Zulu.

A total of 450 people attended the event. Joburg Sassa offices are situated at the corner of De Villiers and Harrison Street.
