Over the festive season, it is also important to note there is an increase in crime in most areas.

December and January are the busiest times on the roads across South Africa. Thousands of hard-working citizens will take to the roads in search of rest and relaxation over the festive period. During this season, it is also important to note that there is an increase in crime in most areas.

Stay safe on SA roads with these top tips:

• When packing your car for the holidays, try not to do so in plain sight of potential criminals. Try as far as possible to park your vehicle inside a closed garage.

• Always keep your doors locked when travelling. If you need to have your windows open, make to sure that someone cannot place their hand into your car.

• Do not travel to close to the vehicle in front of you. Always maintain a safe following distance. When stopping at a traffic light or stop street, make sure there is enough space between your car and the one in front of you to avoid being boxed in.
