St Andrew’s celebrates 117th birthday at Founders’ Day Service

St Andrew’s School for Girls celebrated its 117th birthday along with the annual Founders’ Day Service on January 22.

The service included a call to worship, reading of prayers and a sermon led by the Venerable Moses Thabethe.

Hymns, including the St Andrew’s school hymn, were also sung.

The St Andrew’s staff choir gave stellar performances that resonated with the audience.

Learners took part in the service, including the Grade Threes, who presented the story of St Andrew’s through gymnastics.

The service included a presentation on the school’s vision statements by executive head Ivanca Acquisto along with learners in Grades Four to 12.

The Venerable Moses Thabethe blesses the school’s new tuck shop.

The vision statements call for whole-girl development, innovation in learning and teaching, well-being, diversity, inclusion and cohesiveness, sustainability and embracing our role in local and global communities.

“Founders’ Day 2019 was a day of wonder where we celebrated the pioneering, forward-thinking women who started up an all-girls school and who inspired us to create our new strategic visions for St Andrew’s School for Girls going forward, ” said Acquisto.

The founders of St Andrew’s School for Girls were Jean Fletcher and Jess Johnston.

The service concluded with the cutting of the birthday cake by head girl Njeri Kiambati and the youngest Grade R, learner Yihan Liu.

Thabethe blessed the school’s new tuck shop on the day.
