Members of Ward 18’s committee invite the community to meet the ward committee to learn more about who they are and what they do.
On February 16 committee members will host a meet and greet session from 9am onwards at the Edenvale Community Centre.
Committee members Simon Molemoge (community development and city planning) and Realeboha Mofolo (infrastructure and services) decided to host the event to create more awareness.

“As the ward committee we are here to assist the community,” said Mofolo.
He said the community needs to know who they can turn to for assistance with municipal issues.
Comprised of residents from the ward, the committee reports matters affecting the ward to the municipality and assist the ward councillor.
On each committee there are 12 positions; community members can fill 10 of those positions.
The last two positions are filled by a ward councillor and a ward coordinator.
Molemoge said he and Mofolo decided to join the ward committee to improve the community.
“Community members with free time should visit us, share ideas and tell us what they want in their community,” said Molemoge.

“We are here to help them and be the bridge between them and the municipality.”
In addition to hosting the meet and greet event, Molemoge and Mofolo hope to start an a-political Ward 18 youth desk.
They hope the youth desk will keep the area’s youth busy and out of trouble.
The youth desk will allow members to network, share information and exchange ideas to improve the community.
