Pipe bands impress at Bennies Highland Gathering (Video)

The band with the highest points on the day was Transvaal Scottish Pipes and Drums.

St Benedict’s hosted the 2019 Highland Pipe Band Gathering at the college grounds on July 13.

The Scottish-cultured event was the Pipe Band Association Southern Africa’s (PBASA) Regional Championship finals.

Many bands competed for the top spot.

The well-attended gathering had different sections, making it the perfect family outing.

“We had one really cracking set,” said pipe manager of Pretoria Highlanders Pipes and Drums Sanesh Aromoguna.

The band with the highest points on the day was Transvaal Scottish Pipes and Drums.

Band member Leesha Edgar said they expected good results.

“We had an amazing run with both of our sets.”

The top performers were:

• Grade 2: Transvaal Scottish with 48 points

• Grade 3: Pretoria Highlanders with 39 points

• Grade 4: Transvaal Scottish with 48 points

• Juvenile: Benoni with 45 points

• Novice Juvenile: Pretoria Boys A with 47 points

Drum Corps – 2019

• Grade 2: Transvaal Scottish with 48 points

• Grade 3: Glen Allen with 45 points

• Grade 4: Transvaal Scottish with 48 points

• Juvenile: St Benedict’s College with 45 points

• Novice Juvenile: King Edward School VII with 42 points

Drum Majors

• Open: Terrence Mzyk with 22 points

• Juvenile: Kabelo Makoala with 22 points
