As part of its Caxton Cares project to ensure a reading nation, the NEWS recently visited schools where editor Marietta Lombard spoke about the importance of reading.

The NEWS team also handed over a large collection of books to Bertrams Primary School, where Lombard encouraged Grade Seven learners to nurture a love for reading.

During a visit to Germiston South Primary School, Lombard read her favourite children’s book, Jack and the Beanstalk, to Grade One learners.

The NEWS also hosted an additional project, #SayHello and encouraged our readers to join us in learning how to greet in all 11 official languages.

This additional project was to further the SABDC’s aim of increasing cultural diversity through books published in indigenous languages.
