30 years of service celebrated
The club was chartered on June 29, 1989, with 33 founder members drawn from former Round Table members of the Eastern Witwatersrand area.
Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a black-tie dinner at Belgravia Bowling Club, Bedfordview.
The club was chartered on June 29, 1989, with 33 founder members drawn from former Round Table members of the Eastern Witwatersrand area.
The dinner allowed members to engage with one another, reminisce about past events and reflect on what the club has done for its members and the less fortunate.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship Awards in recognition of the hard work of four members.
A Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship, Sapphire level, was also awarded to Merle Howroyd for her 30 years of dedicated and selfless service to the ladies of the Gerald Fitzpatrick House and Nursing Home in Bertrams.
Merle served as manager at the facility for 27 years, until her retirement.
The clubs founding president, Lu Petra, was recognised for his contribution to the club, by granting him honorary membership status.
The Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon meets on Wednesday at 6.30pm at Belgravia Bowling Club, 56 Florence Avenue, Bedfordview.
While the club’s primary purpose is to help those less fortunate, the active and diverse speaker programme and engagement in projects provide an opportunity for personal growth.
The club provides a space for like-minded individuals to come together and interact.
