A total of 115 learners enjoyed Heritage Day celebrations when Eastleigh Pre-Primary School hosted a boerewors braai.

Held on September 19 the event saw 35 learners from Star Crèche, in Alexander, join the 80 learners from Eastleigh.
Sherry Landman, from the pre-primary school, said the event was inspired by the school’s intention to help the community and celebrate Heritage Day.
Star Crèche, the school’s adopted crèche, is often frequented by Eastleigh staff who assist them and provide training.

“We believe that uplifting education doesn’t just occur in schools, but also by reaching out to people in need.”
On the day learners wore clothes which represented their cultures and heritage.
“We are a multicultural school so we respect all culture and like to share the cultures with the learners.”

She said although the teachers were exhausted the learners had fun.
“The Heritage Day celebrations were worth every minute.”
Another community initiative that the pre-primary school is working on is a shoe collection drive.

“We are collecting second-hand shoes in good condition, but especially school shoes, for children and adults.”
On September 19 the school had collected close to 500 pairs of shoes.
The collected shoes will be donated to people in rural areas where people have no shoes and often walk barefoot.

To assist in the donation drive, drop off second-hand shoes in a good condition at Eastleigh Primary School’s office.
