Brothel in Bez Valley shut down

"A 17-month-old girl was found; the mother said she had no one else to look after the child,” said Munyai.

A brothel was shut down in Kitchener Avenue, Bez Valley, on the night of September 17.

Jeppe SAPS was alerted by an informant on Tuesday night about suspicious activities at the house.

Spokesperson Capt Richard Munyai said the police visited the house at about 10pm.

“This was after a woman came to the station and reported that there were activities of physical and online forced prostitution happening in the house. When we arrived at the house we found seven other women who were kept there.

“A 17-month-old baby girl was found; the mother said she had no one else to look after the child,” said Munyai.

According to Munyai, the women alleged they were recruited by a South African woman who is married to a foreign national.

“Most of the women are from KwaZulu-Natal and said they came to Joburg with a promise of jobs. They said they have been here for six months and others less,” said Munyai.

The case has been transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

“There are two suspects connected to the brothel who are husband and wife and they are currently on the run. Police are looking for them,” said Munyai.

The women were removed from the house.

“The police are also looking for the owner of the house,” said Munyai.
