Care centre desperate for help

Sr Jean Mitton of Edenvale Care Centre Hospice calls upon the community of Edenvale to come to their assistance.
“This little Edenvale Hospice, which has done so much good work for many years, is now in huge trouble financially,” said Jean.
“I am a nurse, not a financial person; however, I understand for the nurses to do their work and for Edenvale Hospice to survive we need money.”
Jean believes if a quarter of Edenvale’s population were to donate R20 a month it would assist the centre immensely.
“I also understand that for those of us who don’t do internet banking, the mere thought of going into a bank is like a nightmare. Perhaps we can create a drop-off point,” said Jean.
“This way a receipt could be provided after a donation is made and community members will know the donation will go towards funding the right cause.”
Appealing to residents, community members and businesses, Jean urged the community to make the Edenvale care centre the best in the country.
“Please, somebody come to the rescue.”

Jean said two staff nurses have worked at the centre for several years for the same income.
She said by having more funds from the community the centre could at least increase the salaries of the two nurses.
“If we could find four sponsors to commit to paying one staff nurse salary for 12 months it would also greatly assist.”
Jean told the NEWS that to lighten the load of the two nurses, two additional nurses were hired.
She said ideally the centre would hope to find four sponsors to assist with the nurses.
