St Benedict’s old boys Steven Paulo and Chad Futcher of the Class of 2015 were both selected for the South African Men’s Indoor Hockey Team.
Steven and Chad represented South Africa at the recent Afcon Games held in Hillcrest.
South Africa won the tournament and booked their place at next year’s World Cup.
They are both in the greater squad and are awaiting final selection for the World Cup team to travel to Switzerland.
In addition, Chad also made his debut for the South African Men’s Outdoor Hockey Team against Germany and Namibia.
He has also been involved in Olympic training camps.
While Chad wasn’t selected to represent South Africa at the Olympics in Tokyo, the school hopes to see him feature in Brisbane at the next Olympics.
“I have had the privilege to coach both of them at the Maropeng Cavemen PHL team. Their work ethic and drive is testament as to why they are succeeding as both hockey players and young men.
“Both Chad and Steven optimise the quality St Benedict’s College produces. I look forward to watching Chad and Steven on their journey to greater things. Bennies boys today. Exceptional sportsmen tomorrow,” said Mark Sanders, head of hockey at St Benedict’s.
