Stingrays make end-of-year splash

"The swimmers came together, showing true grit and great team spirit."

Edenvale Stingrays placed ninth overall when the club competed at the Eastern Gauteng Aquatics Championships held at the start of December.

The club raced for five consecutive days, competing against 21 other clubs between December 9 and 13.

Although 32 swimmers from Stingrays entered the championship, only 26 competed, due to Covid-19.

The team competed in 40 top 10 finals.

Kate Jones of Edenvale Stingrays said: “Many medals were won, but almost every swimmer achieved personal bests (PB) in every event they took part in.”

The 26 Stingray swimmers accumulated 119 PBs.

Jones said the relays were a hit among the team.

“The swimmers came together, showing true grit and great team spirit,” said Jones.

Jones described the performance of the swimmers as incredible.

“The swimmers did us proud, qualifying for their respective levels and proving that true determination and hard work pay off.”
