Edenvale High School hockey star hits the right shots

Shanay was the only B league player selected for the U18 SA team and is the second girl ever to be selected from Eastern Gauteng.

Edenvale High School learner Shanay de Klerk was selected for the South African Schools U18A hockey team.

Shanay competed between July 7 and 13 in Cape Town against Namibia where South Africa won every match in the series.

Shanay was the only B league player selected for the U18 South African team and is the second girl ever to be selected from Eastern Gauteng.

The deputy head girl’s performance in hockey is nothing short of phenomenal.

Edenvale High School learner Shanay de Klerk was selected for the South African Schools U18A hockey team.

This year alone, Shanay was selected to play for the Premier Hockey Women’s League.

It is currently the highest league for women’s hockey

Once selected Shanay represented the JSA first team in the Premier League playing against Tuks, Wits and Pukke – alongside SA players.

Shannay has also received a call-up to the JHL Senior Women’s team that competed in a tournament in March where her team achieved the Bronze medal.

Additionally, Shanay was chosen as captain of the Eastern Gauteng U18A team for the national tournament.
The national tournament was held in Stellenbosch from 25 June – 1 July.

Shanay’s name is fast becoming well known in South African hockey.

Edenvale High School wished Shannay all the best as she continues to excel in elite and prestigious teams.

“Her remarkable skill and talent will bring a bright future for her in South African Hockey,” said the school.
