Illiondale Road to be improved

“It is nice to see that this item is coming to fruition and it shows that ward IDPs do work.”

In the coming weeks, residents of Mark Road can look forward to improvements made to a portion of the road.

According to Ward 18’s Ald Heather Hart, the project will commence in early May and should be completed by the end of June.

She said the project would take six to eight weeks to complete.

During the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS’ visit to the site on April 25, at least three properties were without a road and had subsequently constructed an informal road to get to their homes.

Hart explained that there was one large ERF along the road which had not been developed at the time but over the years it was subdivided and development occurred.

“I have no idea why when they developed Illiondale township they never constructed Mark Road in what would assume would be a cul-de-sac,” said Hart.

She said the city no longer has access to the original establishment blueprints for the section of Illiondale in question.

“It is difficult to know why the road was not completed at the time.”

Hart said this item was first put on her ward IDP in 2017/18

“It is nice to see that this item is coming to fruition and it shows that ward IDPs do work.”

Hart thanked the City of Ekurhuleni for giving this project the attention it needed.

Explaining why projects often take so long Hart said it can often take up to two years from the planning phase to implementation.

“During that process, there are numerous steps, however, the implementation is usually the quickest.”

Hart said the project is waiting for the approval of a consultant.
