Bedfordview sinkhole at Kloof and Van Buuren roads fixed

The City of Ekurhuleni repaired the Bedfordview sinkhole, which had caused traffic delays and safety concerns since January.

After a month, the sinkhole on the corner of Kloof and Van Buuren roads has been fixed.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini stated on February 5, “The city can confirm that the Department of Water repaired the water leak in the slip lane at the intersection of Van Buuren and Kloof roads, Bedfordview, yesterday.”

The sinkhole, which had seemingly begun to manifest in the second week of January, was causing considerable traffic congestion and danger as observed by Ward 20 councillor Jill Humphreys.

Humphreys had contacted the city on January 22, saying, “This terrible hole in the road, it’s not only a sinkhole anymore, but it’s a well being used by the vagrants in the area.

“It has now become ‘an ablution site’ for the vagrants. The traffic issue is also extremely awkward. This is our potable water that is now totally exposed to whatever is put in there!”

The city had not answered the question of what had caused the sinkhole in the first place.
