Be safe from summer colds and flu

Flue is not restricted to winter months

Often we might think flu is common during cold winter days.
The truth is you are more likely to get sick during the colder months, but you can still get sick during summer.
“Different viruses cause the common cold or the flu, but they are still active during the warmer months,” comments Mario Correia, brand manager for a decongestant brand.
He said the viruses that cause colds and flu are different in the winter than in summer, but the symptoms and the aches and pains are all the same.
Continuously looking after yourself, as well as being prepared for what may occur, is the smart thing to do.

Health tips:
• Keep hydrated, and make sure to eat healthy foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy salads and fruit-based desserts.
This will give you the essential vitamins and minerals you need to avoid getting sick.
• Try and keep a distance from co-workers and family members who are sick.
Keep a hand sanitiser in your desk drawer, or around the house and remember to wash your hands regularly.
Germs can be found on common office and household items such as the remote control, doorknobs and even your co-worker’s pen.
• Be prepared for any symptoms that you may experience.
This will give you a helping hand. One of the symptoms experienced when getting a cold or the flu is congestion. This can be uncomfortable and frustrating.
• Regularly eating fruits and vegetables will help keep your immune system strong, but your stress levels also play an important role in keeping you healthy.
High-stress levels can cause your body’s immune system to weaken, making you more susceptible to illnesses.
• Always remember to use a tissue or your elbow when you cough and sneeze.
The droplets from these actions can move to another person, transferring the virus to them.
• Keeping healthy does not only include eating correctly, it also includes exercising.

When you get your body moving your immune system increases, protecting you from certain illnesses and helping you recover faster than usual.
