Locals take part in Essentially Edenvale clean-up project
To aid the community clean-ups, Lisa appealed to the community to donate towards Essentially Edenvale.
Community members united during an Essentially Edenvale clean-up conducted in Highway Gardens.
They held it on August 12 on the corner of Beverley Avenue and Cunningham Road at and around the City of Ekurhuleni water pump and energy station.
Lisa Aitkins from Essentially Edenvale said the clean-up project was a success.

She said the group would return to conduct a few final touch-ups.

Volunteer and community member who assisted with the R24 clean up, Neil Rein of Strongcor Packaging, said assisting in community clean-ups was vital.
He explained it formed part of giving back to the community and providing sustainability.
A resident of the area, Rose Bischoff, said she appreciated the cleaning up as she often picks up litter in the area.
“Thank you to all our volunteers and supporters. Without you, we could not achieve what we do,” she said.
On the day, the volunteers also removed invasive plants such as bugweed from the municipal property. They cleared the pavement of overgrown grass and removed the overgrown vegetation.

Lisa said an unknown person hijacked one room inside the pump house and seemed to use it as accommodation.
“We cut open the lock, removed the filth, including drug paraphernalia, swept it out and sealed it up by welding the gate shut,” she said.

The volunteers also located another ‘home’ below ground, just outside the pump station.
Lisa thanked Michael Lake and Shannon Holgate for volunteering to go inside the hole to clear it out. The hole, with the cover stolen, will be secured by welded sections.
“This is to prevent another person/s from using it as a sleeping or a hiding place,” said Lisa.

To aid the community clean-ups, Lisa appealed to the community to donate towards Essentially Edenvale.

“Consider donating towards our initiatives so we can continue making Edenvale Cleaner, Greener and Safer,“ she said.
