Local pub to host a fundraiser to help a musician with life-threatening disease

One of Craig's last performances of his career was played at the pub just before the Covid-19 lockdown.

To assist former Eastleigh Primary and Edenvale High School learner and musician Craig Owen, Our Place Pub will host a fundraiser.

Set to be held on November 4, the pub will host a fancy-dress hippie party. It won’t carry a cover charge.

Having spent most of his adult life as a musician, Craig has performed countless gigs across Gauteng with numerous bands.

Many of these events were in and around Edenvale, with Our Place in Edenglen being one of his favourite venues.
One of Craig’s last performances of his career was played at the pub just before the Covid-19 lockdown.

Following this his ailing health forced him into early retirement.

Craig has severe stage four chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He is now on oxygen full-time and practically bedridden.

Unable to earn an income anymore, Craig is being supported by his partner Barbara who is also a pensioner.

The fancy dress party will be held to help Craig with his finances and to pay medical bills.

There will be prizes for the best hippie outfits and various specials. Live entertainment will be supplied by The Leon Shaw Syndicate.

This is not the first time the pub has assisted those in need. For several years the venue hosted an annual potjiekos competition to raise funds for Edenvale SPCA.
