Beware of unregistered and bogus tertiary institutions – Edenvale SAPS

“These fly-by-night institutions and people who defraud guardians or parents of their savings must be reported."

With the start of the school year, Edenvale SAPS encouraged parents and guardians to verify the legitimacy of tertiary institutions before enrolment.

Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer urged parents not to fall victim to bogus tertiary institutions or fake accommodation offers.

“With the back-to-school rush, parents and guardians must be vigilant when applying to or enrolling their children at various institutions.

“Police plead with parents and guardians not to deposit funds into any account before they physically visited the school,”

They also advised parents to verify the legitimacy of tertiary institutions.

“To confirm if an institution of higher learning is registered and legitimate, contact the Department of Higher Education and Training before depositing funds.”

Mashile urged parents and guardians to trust their gut.

“These fly-by-night institutions and people who defraud guardians or parents of their savings must be reported. If you suspect an institution is suspicious, it is best to report it and to stay away from it,” said Mashile.
