Letter: Reader pleads to the City for more maintenance at Gillooly’s Farm

"Let us please get our priorities right, and not become victims to overzealous and greedy developers."

Dear Editor – I am a frequent visitor to Gillooly’s Farm in Bedfordview as I am a regular Saturday morning parkrunner.

Our parkrun director and his team of volunteers trim the grass and maintain our route.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) staff clears the rubbish left after picnics.

The park has lovely swings for children and is a blessing to so many families and nature lovers.

This is a much-needed space for people to connect with nature.

It would be much appreciated if the CoE could cut the grass growing around the braai areas. It is difficult to have a picnic as the grass is sometimes unkempt and too long.

Basic ongoing maintenance is needed.

Gillooly’s is a beautiful park and brings pleasure and health to the parkrunners and many other nature lovers.

Available park space was further reduced by the recent closure of the Modderfontein parkrun, for ‘commercial’ reasons.

It would be sad if Gillooly’s will be lost to us for similar reasons.

Let us please get our priorities right, and not become victims to overzealous and greedy developers.
