Hoërskool Vryburger High School celebrates its recent achievement in sports, as it now looks forward to competing in the national championships.

The school recently participated in the Gauteng district and provincial athletics championships and yielded good results.

“They took part in the hammer throw for the first time in the school’s history, and three athletes qualified to compete in the Gauteng Provincial Championships.

“The school is participating in the Gauteng Provincial Championships for the first time. We have already achieved history by doing so, so any further success is a plus for us,” said Ruan de Lange, Sports coordinator.

“Given that some students attending the provincials are rugby players, it is a very poignant sensation. This demonstrates their degree of adaptability and passion for athletics.

“As we go along, I am learning more about the hammer throw, but I don’t know much about it.

“Our athletes participate in hurdle races, long and high jump, and other events,” said De Lange.
