Founders of Little Eden Society celebrated in special pilgrimage

"Their commitment to serving persons living with intellectual disability continues to inspire us all,"

NPO Little Eden Society commemorated its founders, Danny and Domitilla Hyams, with a special pilgrimage journey.

Held on May 11, the pilgrimage started at St Thérèse Catholic Church in Edenvale where community members gathered for a short Mass to honour the memory and legacy of the founders.

Soon after participants boarded buses bound for Little Eden’s Bapsfontein facility, where they embarked on a journey of reflection and remembrance.

Little Eden Society’s CEO Xelda Rohrbeck said that this journey was a testament to the legacy of its founders.

“Their commitment to serving persons living with intellectual disability continues to inspire us all, years after their passing and this pilgrimage is a fitting tribute to their extraordinary contributions.

“The pilgrimage is a meaningful occasion for everyone at Little Eden Society and it serves as a reminder of our roots and the guiding principles that continue to shape our work today,” said Rohrbeck.

She thanked everyone who joined the NPO in commemorating the founders and honouring their legacy.

Special thanks were extended to His Grace Archbishop Buti Tlhagale, His Lordship Bishop John Selemela, Father Phuti Makgabo, Father Solly Mphela OFM, Father Deneys Williamson and Regina Coeli for their contribution to the day’s success.

The pilgrimage provided participants with an opportunity to connect and reflect on the impact of the work of the founders.

Community members and visitors walked around the Bapsfontein Home where they were reminded of the love and compassion that has characterised Little Eden Society’s mission for the past 57 years.
