Operation Shanela in Edenvale brings arrests many
The detective tracing operation arrested 131 suspects for contact crimes, 22 for contact-related crimes, 19 for property-related crimes, 42 for serious offences and 40 for GBV.
Law enforcement agencies took to Edenvale for Operation Shanela on May 23.
The integrated police operation saw many arrests, with 229 suspects apprehended for various criminal activities.
The detective tracing operation arrested 131 suspects for contact crimes, 22 for contact-related crimes, 19 for property-related crimes, 42 for serious offences and 40 for GBV.

During the roadblock, they arrested one suspect for driving with a fraudulent driver’s license, processed 22 illegal immigrants and issued 34 traffic fines.
Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, led the operation.

Sithole said property-related crimes such as burglaries (businesses and private homes), theft of vehicles and robberies are a problem in Edenvale. In addition, she declared the Avenues a crime hotspot.

She urged the community to continue working with law enforcement in combating crime.

A spokesperson for the Edenvale CPF, Fiona Pickett, said they are battling with an influx of vagrants, most of whom occupy vacant properties.

She urged residents to stay vigilant and report vacant properties. She also encouraged them to join the CPF to have more feet on the ground.
