Bedfordview SAPS engages in mall safety campaigns

The Bedfordview SAPS warned the community about scams and raised awareness of safety as we approach the festive season.

The Bedfordview SAPS did community engagements and mall visits ahead of the festive season.

As part of the ongoing efforts to ensure a safe festive season, the Social Crime co-ordinator and sector managers from Bedfordview SAPS did a series of community engagements at three major malls in the area.

They visited the Bedford Centre, the Meadowdale Mall, and the Eastgate Shopping Centre on November 20 to raise awareness about safety and scams during the festive season.

According to the Social Crime co-ordinator and the Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Lillian Modiga, the aim was to educate the public on how to protect themselves from potential threats and encourage them to report crimes directly to the police rather than relying solely on social media.

Local police liaise with shopping centres and malls ahead of Black Friday and the festive season.

“Our officers engaged with shoppers, business owners and mall staff, providing valuable information on common scams and fraudulent activities prevalent during the festive season, safety tips for shopping and socialising and the importance of reporting incidents to the police.

“We urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

“By working together, we can ensure a safer and more enjoyable festive season for all,” said Modiga.
