The Quondam Retirement Village residents and family gathered for an informative and interactive workshop on dementia with Lorna Quinn on March 24.
Quinn is a registered counsellor in private practice with many years of experience in dealing with dementia, who raised awareness and provided valuable insights into understanding dementia for the residents.
She looked at the meaning of dementia, types of dementia, the causes and risk factors, the early signs to watch for, the importance of early intervention and the challenges people with dementia face.

She also touched on the impact of dementia on brain function, the stages of dementia as a progressive degenerative condition and managing and supporting people with the disease.
“The workshop included questions and comments from the participants, which added to the overall goal of gaining an informed outlook and awareness of dementia.
“Feedback from the participants also indicated they experienced the workshop in a way that enhanced their knowledge and understanding of dementia and ways to manage the symptoms as effectively as possible,” said the village’s manager, Neeri Stroebel.
“The talk ended with a Q&A session, where attendees asked Quinn about practical ways to help loved ones live more comfortably with dementia.
“The event was a valuable opportunity for the Quondam Retirement Village community to come together, learn and share their experiences,” she added.
